Where Most Websites Fail

A few decades ago, websites were a new way of doing business and opened up a world of opportunity for the average business to reach beyond their brick and mortar establishments. Since that time, we have seen many changes from design to usability when it comes to doing business on the web.
A few decades ago, websites were a new way of doing business and opened up a world of opportunity for the average business to reach beyond their brick and mortar establishments. Since that time, we have seen many changes from design to usability when it comes to doing business on the web. With the growing trends, came the advent of social media; which brought conversation and engagement to the table. Smaller businesses saw the benefit of social media and the focus on websites decreased over time. What many didn't realize was that social media could never truly be a replacement for a central web location, and the efforts of maintaining and updating a website should have never been neglected to begin with.

What we have these days are hacked up sites with large load times running on messy installs of Wordpress and Joomla. The DIY approach to websites created a myriad of cookie-cutter websites and made people believe that the website was simply a place to display information. Online business was made to operate AS A BUSINESS, and the neglect of an online website is equal to neglecting the office building it represents. Wouldn't you want to be sure the bathrooms worked, the roof wasn't leaking and the locks were all functional? Wouldn't you want to make sure the cash registers work properly and that the display racks weren't falling all over each other? This is how people treat their websites, and as a result, they get no conversions, untargeted traffic and maintain the faulty thinking that investing in a working website isn't worth the time.

IS YOUR WEBSITE UP TO STANDARDS?
If you're wondering whether you are in this category of people, or if you are in the other category of businesses that truly want to create an online experience that produces revenue; ask yourself the following questions:

1. Does my site take forever to load up?
2. Does my website have the most updated information and products available?
3. Do I encounter any errors on my site when I browse through it?
4. Is my site design specifically custom to my brand, and representing my brand in a way that makes me distinct from my competitors?
5. Do I regularly keep track of traffic and trends on my website utilizing analytics tools?
6. Do I regularly update my website to continue providing fresh content and products?
7. Does my site include links to all my social media, 3rd party application (i.e. mailing lists, embedded videos, etc) for users to access?
8. Am I building up a mailing list of people I can regularly communicate new content and products with?
